Brandon Stanton, who created the “Humans of New York'' blog, will be speaking 7 p.m. Thursday at the IU Auditorium. The event will be livestreamed on Zoom.
Thursday’s event will touch on Stanton’s own life, how his perspective has changed over time, the art of storytelling and how Humans of New York puts together and shares stories on a weekly basis, according to the event’s webpage.
What began as a photography project in 2010 that aimed to capture the various lives of New Yorkers has grown into a storytelling platform complete with photos, quotes and real-life tales from New Yorkers, according to Humans of New York’s website. The blog has since expanded to over 20 countries around the world, according to the website.
“Since the first ‘Humans of New York’ photo was published in 2010, Stanton has helped strangers from all across the world connect with one another through their stories,” the press release for the event said.
Humans of New York has built a social media following of more than 20 million people and Stanton wrote two books as a result of the movement’s popularity – “Humans of New York” and “Humans of New York: Stories.”
The event is free to the public but requires a Zoom registration. Questions from audience members during the event are encouraged.
