IU men’s basketball sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis announced Friday on Twitter he will be returning for his junior year.
“Indiana basketball is something that I have been blessed to be a part of,” Jackson-Davis wrote on his Twitter account. “After talking with coach Woodson and family, I believe that it is in my best interest to come back for my junior year.”
This past season, Jackson-Davis led the Hoosiers in points, rebounds, blocks and minutes with 19.1 points, 9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game, while playing an average of 34.5 minutes per night. He finished fourth in the Big Ten in both scoring and blocks, and was second in rebounds.
Jackson-Davis was named a third-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten selection this season. He's the first player to be named to both teams since Yogi Ferrell in 2016.
After accepting the IU head coaching job, new head coach Mike Woodson said it was a priority to talk to the players and keep the team intact.
“I’m going to beg for him to stay with me and talk to his parents,” Woodson said in an interview with IU’s Don Fischer. “ I think I can help him develop and get to the next level because there are some eyes out there that are looking at him, but I still think he needs to be polished a little more in his development stage. In doing that I think that can help our program.”
