Redshirt junior forward Race Thompson announced Thursday on Instagram that he will withdraw his name from the transfer portal and stay with IU men’s basketball next season.

“After talking it over with my family, I’m happy to announce I’m coming back to Indiana,” Thompson said in his announcement on Instagram. “I’m excited for coach Woodson and the future of the program.”

Thompson is now the fourth Hoosier to withdraw from the transfer portal — joining Parker Stewart, Jordan Geronimo and Khristian Lander. The last player still in the transfer portal is sophomore guard Armaan Franklin.

Thompson averaged 9.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this past season, starting all 27 games for IU.

Thompson was the first recruit to commit to then-head coach Archie Miller but redshirted his first season at IU. He struggled with injuries in his second season but slowly gained playing time over his career and established himself as a reliable talent.

Only two people played more minutes than Thompson this past season — sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis and senior guard Al Durham.
