Indiana sophomore Drew Salyers was announced as one of the Big Ten’s Golfers of the Week Wednesday, winning the award alongside Michigan State seniors James Piot and Troy Taylor II.
Salyers earns the honor after finishing first in the Hoosier Collegiate Invitational with a 5-under par three-round score of 208. He helped lead Indiana to a third-place team result in its first match of the season over Labor Day weekend at the Pfau Golf Course in Bloomington.
Salyers, who was one of three Hoosiers named to the Big Ten Watch List Aug. 31, was one of 11 players to break 70 in any round, and one of two to have multiple rounds under 70. Indiana fifth-year senior Ethan Shepherd was the other.
This is Salyers’ first award, who became the first Hoosier to place first in an individual stroke-play tournament since Brendan Doyle in 2017.
Next up for the Indiana men’s golf team is the Fighting Illini Invitational Sept. 17-19 at the Olympia Fields Country Club in Chicago.
