The Big Ten announced its men’s golf Players to Watch for the upcoming season Tuesday with three IU men’s golf players named.
Senior Mitch Davis and sophomores Clay Merchent and Drew Salyers were the three Hoosiers included on the list.
Davis has plenty of experience under his belt as a Hoosier. He played in 66 rounds across his first three seasons and has finished twice in the top 25 in the Big Ten Championships. Last year, he placed within the top 10 at three different tournaments.
Merchent became the third IU player to win Big Ten Freshman of the Year after breaking IU’s record for lowest average as a freshman, scoring 72.46 across 24 rounds. That average ranks 10th all time in IU history.
Salyers also played in every round as a first year and posted a scoring average of 73.83, which ranks fourth for freshmen in program history. At his collegiate debut at the General Hackler Championship in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, he posted his season best 5-under.
The Hoosiers open their season Sept. 5-6 at the Pfau Course in Bloomington in the Hoosier Collegiate.
