After going 1-2 last weekend in its road series against No. 24 Ohio State, the Indiana softball team will face Kent State University at 1 p.m. Wednesday for a stand-alone game at Andy Mohr Field.
Wednesday’s matchup marks the Hoosiers’ first stand-alone game of the season, as every other game has been part of a weekend series. It is also the team’s first home game since the March 5-6 series against Valparaiso University and Western Illinois University. Indiana looks to keep a perfect home record going into this game.
Kent State is 7-13 this season and 1-4 in the Mid-American Conference. The Golden Flashes played one Big Ten opponent earlier this season, going 0-4 in a four-game series against No. 21 Michigan.
Freshman utility player Savannah Wing has a .310 batting average, the highest of all players on Kent State. Wing also has a .948 on-base plus slugging average. Sophomore pitcher Jessica LeBeau has the lowest earned run average of the team with a 2.51 ERA.
Indiana leads the all-time series 6-2, but it lost the last meeting 8-5 on Feb. 26, 2006, in Tampa Bay, Florida. Indiana’s last win against Kent State came in a 3-2 contest on March 9, 2001, in Lexington, Kentucky.
Wednesday’s game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network+ and through an Indiana Athletics broadcast.
