Indiana redshirt junior transfer Connor Bazelak will be the starting quarterback for the Hoosiers Friday night against the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Bazelak transferred from Missouri on Jan. 7 after starting all 11 games at quarterback for the Tigers during the 2021 season. He threw for 2,548 yards, completed 65.3% of his passes and recorded 16 touchdowns as well as 11 interceptions.

Coming out of high school in 2018, Bazelak was ESPN’s 210th-ranked prospect overall and the 10th-ranked quarterback nationally.

Bazelak will take over for an offense that had four different starting quarterbacks through 12 games, only totaling 2,106 total passing yards. During the 2021 season, Indiana ranked last out of 14 Big Ten teams in total yardage with 3,480 yards.

Despite the appearances of multiple quarterbacks during the 2021 season, head coach Tom Allen said in a previous press conference that he doesn’t intend to rotate the starter throughout this season. With this announcement, Bazelak is assumed to start every game for the Hoosiers this season, omitting the chance of an injury.
