The Indiana women’s soccer team will play Indiana State University on Thursday, marking its second home match of the 2022 season. The game will be the first played at Bill Armstrong Stadium for the women’s program, since rough field conditions at Jerry Yeagley Field led to the Hoosiers’ season opener being held on the practice field.

Indiana is coming off three consecutive 0-0 draws and seven consecutive scoreless matches, dating back to a 0-3 loss against Penn State on Oct. 13, 2021. Despite a stagnant offense, the Hoosiers have been able to avoid the loss column thanks to star sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Gerstenberg.
Gerstenberg has collected her 10th, 11th and 12th career shutouts in the Hoosiers’ first three games and currently ranks fifth on the Indiana all-time shutouts list after just over one full season of collegiate competition. The sophomore standout boasts Big Ten Co-Goalkeeper of the Week honors thanks to a combined 12 saves against West Virginia University on Aug. 18 and Virginia Tech University on Aug. 21.

Indiana State has recorded two losses and one draw to begin 2022. The Sycamores fell to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the University of Toledo and drew against Eastern Illinois University.
On the offensive end, Indiana State sophomore forward Mackenzie Kent scored her team’s lone goal of the season, which came against SIUE. Kent scored five goals as a freshman and was tied for second-most on the Sycamore squad in 2021. Indiana State will return all three of its leading scorers from last season in Kent, senior midfielder Cece Wahlberg and junior forward Sasha Thompson.
Indiana is undefeated against Indiana State, with its last victory coming on August 22, 2014. The Hoosiers and Sycamores have met four times in program history, dating back to the first matchup on Oct. 28, 2001.
Thursday’s contest will serve as senior night for the Hoosiers, and the program will honor seniors Karlee Luker, Megan Wampler and graduate student Bethany Kopel. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on BTN+.
