The IU chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity was placed on cease and desist until further notice effective Friday, according to IU’s list of organizations on disciplinary status.

Cease and desist is an interim measure placed upon certain aspects of chapter operations when there is an immediate threat or ongoing investigation, according to IU’s definitions of disciplinary statuses. All organizational activities are suspended while a chapter is on cease and desist.

Sigma Phi fraternity was placed on cease and desist for endangering others and alcohol, according to IU’s list of organizations on disciplinary status.

IU spokesperson Chuck Carney told the Indiana Daily Student in an email that the investigation for Sigma Phi is ongoing in collaboration with Sigma Phi Epsilon Headquarters. Cease and desist directives are placed when there are allegations of behavior that have caused or may cause harm to members of the organization or community, Carney said.

Sigma Phi president Cameron Fowler told the Indiana Daily Student he did not wish to comment at this time.
