Oct. 10 is World Mental Health Day.
According to the World Health Organization, the goal of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness and increase support for those diagnosed or struggling with mental health issues.
IU has many resources for students on campus, including the Counseling and Psychological Services at the Student Health Center, which offers counseling sessions to students.
According to the CAPS website, all IU students who have paid the student health fee receive two free CAPS counseling sessions each semester. First-time students also receive a free, 30-minute CAPS Now assesment to determine which CAPS services best fit the needs of the student, as well as a bonus free visit during their first semester.
Over 50% of Americans will be diagnosed with a mental illness in their lifetime, and 1 in 25 Americans have a mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or major depression, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
