On Thursday, Indiana softball head coach Shonda Stanton announced infielder Ella Carter as a member of the 2023 signing day class. Carter will join four other 2023 recruits who signed back in November

"Throughout the recruiting process, Ella presented herself as one of the most mature and coachable athletes I have encountered," Stanton said. "Her size, athleticism and power are a match with our focused effort to increase offensive production. We are proud to add Ella to our exciting and accomplished 2023 class.”

Carter hails from New York and attended Poly Prep Country Day School before moving onto Cheshire Academy. At Poly Prep, Carter was a three-time First Team All-Ivy Prep League honoree.

"From the second I stepped on campus, I could feel the unique energy and warmth of the environment,” Carter said. “It was easy for me to see that Bloomington was exactly the place that I needed to be and that this culture was one I needed to be a part of.”

In 2022, Carter played ball with the Indiana Magic Gold-Green, where she was named the team MVP after posting a 0.683 batting average. Carter also hit 11 home runs, 41 RBI’s and scored 28 runs.

Carter’s father, Lawrence, was also a collegiate athlete, playing basketball for Maryland. Ella plans to major in business management at Indiana.

“Every aspect of IU excited me as much as the next, and I can't wait to be a Hoosier!” Carter said in a release.
