Freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino was named both Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Week after scoring 35 points against Purdue on Saturday, per a Big Ten release.
Hood-Schifino is the first player to sweep the awards since Illinois center Kofi Cockburn on Nov. 25, 2019.
The Player of the Week honor is the first of his first career, while the freshman award is his fourth on the season, which ties him with Ohio State freshman guard Brice Sensabaugh for most in the Big Ten.
Hood-Schifino came just one point short of Indiana men’s basketball’s freshman single game scoring record Saturday, set by Jay Edwards in 1988. He also grabbed seven rebounds against the Boilermakers, after he scored 16 points in his first game last week against Michigan State.
On the season, Hood-Schifino is averaging 13.6 points, 3.9 assists and 4.1 rebounds. He is second on the team in both average minutes and points.
