Former Ball State center Payton Sparks announced he is transferring to Indiana men’s basketball on Wednesday, giving the Hoosiers their first transfer portal pickup of the season. Sparks will have two years of eligibility remaining.

In his sophomore season last year, Sparks averaged 13.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, nearly identical to his 13.5 points and 8.5 rebound average in his freshman campaign.

Sparks, who is 6-foot-9 and 240 pounds from Winchester, Indiana, will provide the Hoosiers a new option in the post alongside freshman forward Malik Reneau.

Sparks’ addition comes a day after sophomore guard Tamar Bates entered the transfer portal and almost a week since sophomore center Logan Duncomb entered the portal.
