Following Indiana softball’s perfect 5-0 weekend at the Lady Bison Classic, freshman infielder Taryn Kern received Big Ten Player of the Week along with Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week honors. Kern and Maryland freshman pitcher Keira Bucher were joint winners of the latter award.
Kern had eight hits in 14 at-bats over the weekend, smacking three home runs and tallying 12 RBIs, while walking three times and scoring eight runs. Kern posted a 1.357 slugging percentage in the five games and now leads the team with five home runs and 25 RBI on the season.
The awards are Kern’s first accolades in her collegiate career, and she becomes the program’s first Player of the Week since Bella Norton in May 2021 and the first Freshman of the Week since Taylor Minnick in April 2022.
Kern and company are back in action Tuesday for a clash with Belmont University. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
