Israel Herrera, IU professor, has been selected to be a part of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language, according to a press release from the North American Academy of the Spanish Language on Feb. 3.
Herrera was chosen based on his experience as President of the Indiana Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, President of the Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association, Executive Board Member of the Indiana Language Roadmap and as U.S. Representative in the Executive Board of the European Association of Spanish Teachers.

Herrera has contributed locally through the City of Bloomington Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs and is on the Monroe County School Corportation Equity, Access and Opportunity Steering Committee and the MCCSC Diversity Advisory Committee.
ANLE seeks to promote the Spanish language in the U.S. It has offices in multiple states, including Indiana. The Indiana branch hosts events and cultural activities that help build relationships between students and Spanish-speaking communities.
