COLUMN: 3 underrated breakfast spots in Bloomington

entbreakfast030123-png

As a college student who loves finding new ways to get out of the house, going out to breakfast will always be my favorite activity. While you may have that one favorite breakfast restaurant in Bloomington, there are many more worth trying. If you want to jump out of your comfort zone and find a new spot to admire, try some of my favorites.

Poindexter Cafe

This cafe is a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy a nice meal. They offer a variety of couches and lounge chairs that you can sink into while sipping a warm cup of coffee. Poindexter always has its coffee menu up to date, keeping up with popular flavors each season. Poindexter is not a traditional breakfast restaurant, but it is a suitable place to enjoy a breakfast sandwich and catch up with an old friend.

My favorite items on the menu are the mango smoothie, yogurt parfait and avocado toast. Next time you have a friend in from out of town, take them on a peaceful walk and stop by Poindexter Cafe.

Bedräk

If you are looking for a more unique brunch spot, Bedräk is the perfect choice. All its recipes are classics and homemade — and it often gathers ingredients locally. With tiled floors that are topped with plants and flowers, Bedräk creates an ambiance that is all about greenspace. Its menu gives you many options to choose from, including a variety of egg dishes and a juice bar. Its juice bar consists of any type of juice you could imagine — along with a wide range of smoothies and smoothie bowls.

My personal favorites from its menu are the french toast bites and the breakfast skillet. If you love egg dishes with juice on the side for breakfast, I highly suggest trying Bedräk Cafe.

B-Town Diner

B-Town Diner is a wonderful place to visit when your parents are in town. The restaurant has the traditional breakfast spot look that you see on your favorite 2000s sitcom show. While it has been around for a while, nobody seems to talk about it too much. Not only does it have a large menu that offers any food you could imagine, but it gives generous servings as well. B-Town Diner serves your classic greasy potatoes and savory pancakes on big colorful plates.

Not only do I love ordering the hashbrowns and french toast every time I go, I also love this restaurant's atmosphere.

While breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it also is the best time to devour a delicious meal with a cup of coffee. My favorite part of the weekend is going out to breakfast with my friends on a Sunday morning, as we talk about the best part of our weekends. This weekend, stop by downtown Bloomington and make a fun day out of visiting a new breakfast spot. You can go on a walk with your friends after or stop by your favorite shop.
