The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 10 finalists for the TUCCI/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award Wednesday afternoon.
Indiana freshman infielder Taryn Kern, fresh off winning her sixth Big Ten weekly award in addition to Big Ten Freshman and Player of the Year, was named one of the finalists.
The TUCCI/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award was created in 2014 to honor outstanding athletic achievement among Division I freshman softball student-athletes. In order to be eligible for this award, each student-athlete must be a true freshman or a redshirt freshman and be nominated by their member head coach.
Kern's 22 home runs are tied for first nationally in Division I softball. The list of 10 finalists will be whittled down to three on May 25. The winner is set to be named five days after that on May 30.
