Planned to be completed by early 2024, the Indiana football program will have its own football-only weight-training facility in Memorial Stadium's North End Zone, per an IU Athletics release Monday. The new facility is made possible by alumnus Jay Wilkinson's donation.

In 2012, Wilkinson donated $1 million to renovate the North End Zone's strength and conditioning facility at Memorial Stadium, which was renamed the W. Jay and Nancy Wilkinson Performance Center. This new weight facility will be part of the performance center.

"It's been wonderful to see the overhaul of IU Athletics' facilities in recent years,” Wilkinson said in Monday’s release. I feel privileged to be able to play a part in that effort, and to support the amazing student-athletes who so proudly represent this great university."

In 2017, Wilkinson’s $10 million donation allowed for the construction of Wilkinson Hall, which houses Indiana’s volleyball and wrestling programs. The 3,000-seat venue is located next to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and nearby Memorial Stadium on the north side of campus.

"We are very appreciative of Jay's long-standing support and commitment to positively impacting our student-athletes," IU Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Dolson said in Monday’s release. "This project will not only provide our football student-athletes with the necessary equipment and space to maximize their abilities and opportunities as IU student-athletes, but also the flexibility to use the space 24/7, 365 days a year."
