Former Indiana softball freshman outfielder Elle Smith transferred to Lipscomb University Wednesday, per her social media. Smith is the second of three players from Indiana softball’s Team 50 who entered the transfer portal and found new schools. Smith was in the portal for about a month.
Smith mainly played as a pinch runner as a freshman at Indiana this past season, swiping five bases and scoring 15 runs in 39 appearances. The freshman went 2-for-3 at the plate this year and also drew one walk.
Smith joins pitcher Kate Rehberg as the second Hoosier to transfer after spending the 2023 season in Bloomington. Rehberg transferred to the University of Northern Colorado as a graduate on June 16.
Reigning Big Ten Freshman and Player of the Year Taryn Kern is the lone member of Team 50 that remains in the transfer portal. Kern entered her name into the portal on June 5th, according to a report and confirmed the news via social media four days later.
Lipscomb went 21-29 overall in 2023 and 9-15 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Bisons finished 13th out of 14 teams in the ASUN standings, missing out on the Atlantic Sun Championship and the NCAA Tournament.
