If you have never eaten at Feta Kitchen and Café before, this is your sign.
I ate at Feta this week to prepare for this review, but the truth is that was solely a cautionary step. I have been sold on this restaurant for over a year and half and by the end of this review, you will be too.
My go-to order includes an equal portion of basmati rice and arugula blend, gyro meat, hummus and whipped feta. I then top my bowl with diced cucumbers, Israeli salad, and feta crumble. The restaurant also offers various appetizers that catch my eye every visit. I have yet to try the feta fries or crunchy broccoli bites, but they are a top priority on my to-do list.

While this may not be their favorite description, Feta is a Chipotle-style restaurant that serves Mediterranean food. The Bloomington location opened five years ago on the corner of East Hillside Drive and South Henderson Street.
When you enter the restaurant, you will see workers behind a hot bar. Just like Chipotle, you order your meal at one side of the bar and the employees make it in front of your eyes.
My go-to order is a customizable bowl (one of their more popular items). However, even if we both got customizable bowls, the chances they taste the same are slim due to Feta’s wide variety of fresh toppings to choose from.
You will first have to decide what you want the base of your bowl to be. The base options are quinoa, basmati rice, baby spinach, arugula blend, tabbouleh and hummus. If you are like me and cannot decide between a salad or a grain bowl, ask for a mix of both.
Then on to the protein section. There are three meat options to choose from: chicken, gyro meat and shredded pork. Customers can also choose from one of the four vegetarian protein options. Feta offers falafel, black lentils, boiled egg and roasted broccoli.
The next step really ties your bowl all together. It’s the dips. You can choose from tzatziki, hummus, baba ghanoush (an eggplant spread), skhug (a Yemeni hot sauce), amba (a mango dip) and whipped feta.

At this point, your bowl is almost complete and you are ready to try your creation. Luckily, there is only one last step:, the toppings! There is a vast array of toppings to choose from including diced tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and Israeli salad. For brine lovers, try their corn relish, spiced carrots or red cabbage slaw.
Add one last bit of flavor to your meal with salad dressing. Feta has six dressings on hand including Lemon Tahini and Greek Yogurt and Herb.
If you are a craving a unique take on Mediterranean food, Feta is the place for you. Their bowls combine all the distinct flavors of Mediterranean food into one meal. The easily customizable experience and unique menu items cannot be found anywhere else in Bloomington.
With all the options at Feta, I doubt your bowl will be anything like mine. But isn’t that the beauty of it all?
