Indiana men’s soccer hosts Michigan as the Hoosiers continue to look for their first Big Ten victory of the season.

Indiana tied Wisconsin and lost to Michigan State in conference play so far this season. On the other hand, Michigan tied Maryland and defeated Rutgers.

The Hoosiers are 3-3-2 overall and have lost only one of five home games this season.

Historically, Indiana has a 23-4-4 record against Michigan. At home, the Hoosiers are 9-3-2 over the Wolverines.

Indiana’s last game against conference rival Michigan State ended in a 2-1 loss despite Indiana having more shots on goal than the Spartans.

The Hoosiers have six goals in eight games and average 16 shot attempts per game. On defense, Indiana has suppressed opponents to just seven shot attempts per game and has four shutouts with the most recent coming against Butler University on Sept. 19.

Indiana counts on junior forward Sam Sarver and freshman forward Collins Oduro to put the Hoosiers on the scoreboard. Sarver has three goals and two assists while Oduro has two goals and one assist.

On the other hand, the Wolverines are 2-3-3 overall but are winless on the road with a 0-3-1 record.

The Wolverines enter Tuesday’s match coming off a 3-2 win at home against Rutgers on Sept. 22. In a back-and-forth game, Michigan came back from a 0-2 deficit in the first half and had 14 shots, with eight of those being on goal.

Michigan averages 11 shot attempts and 1.5 goals per game this season so far. In terms of their defense, the Wolverines have allowed an average of 12 shot attempts and 1.6 goals per game this year.

Individually, Michigan has a few options when it comes to scoring. Senior midfielder Bryce Blevins has three goals and two assists, freshman forward Alex Waggoner has three goals and junior forward Michael Leon has two goals alongside an assist.

The Hoosiers are looking to get back in the win column against the Wolverines before a week-long break ahead of the matchup against the University of Kentucky on Oct. 3.

“The Big Ten is kind of like a season within a season,” head coach Todd Yeagley said Sept. 19 after defeating Butler. “Every game is critical.”
