Graduate student forward Mackenzie Holmes was named an Associated Press preseason All-American, announced by the AP on Tuesday afternoon.
Holmes enters the upcoming campaign coming off a 2022-23 season in which she averaged 22.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game alongside shooting a program-record 68% from the field.
The Gorham, Maine, native has previously received post-season recognition from the AP as an All-American honorable mention in 2022 and first team All-American in 2023. Holmes’ selection as a preseason All-American marks the first time a Hoosier has received such honors.
Holmes enters the 2023-24 season at fourth in program all-time scoring with 1,897 points, trailing current program leader Tyra Buss by 467 points. To eclipse Buss’ mark of 2,364 points, Holmes must average nearly 17 points per game during the regular season. She also sits second in all-time blocked shots with 208.
