A Bloomington man allegedly hit and killed a woman walking in the road with his car Tuesday morning, according to a Monroe County Sheriff's Office news release.

A 911 caller reported a person in dark clothing walking southbound in the northbound lane of State Road 37 near Dillman Road around 6:40 a.m. Tuesday. Then, just three minutes later, several people called to report the person had been struck by a car.

Deputies and EMTs arrived at the scene to find a woman lying dead in the road, according to the news release.

The alleged driver, 38-year-old Dustin Eason from Bloomington, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, a Level 4 felony that carries a prison sentence of 2-12 years and up to a $10,000 fine.

The name of the woman killed will not be released until her next-of-kin are notified.
