The At First Sight New Play Festival will bring David Davila’s brand-new musical “Vox Pop! a post-democratic musical” to Ruth N. Halls Theatre Feb. 9-17. Davila, a third year IU MFA playwriting candidate, wrote the book, music and lyrics for this musical.
Davila, a writer, performer and comedian from Texas, focuses his work on narratives of Queer and Latinx individuals living in America. His mediums range from writing plays, musicals and TV shows to writing poetry and doing stand-up comedy. He is the 2021 winner of the New American Voices National Playwriting Award which is given to some of the nation’s most promising ascending playwrights.
Davila's musical "Vox Pop! a post-democratic musical" narrates the story of rebellious troubadours surrounded by the lethal forces of an oppressive regime. With their freedom hanging by a thread, they only have one chance to tell the tale of “Vox Populi” — a sacred tale recounting the ascent and descent of a mythical society. Learn about their success of passing along the legend and saving democracy from corruption through the musical. One can buy tickets here.
Songs from the soundtrack are available on his website.
