entlillylocaltunes-illo

Welcome back to the weekend show guide. This weekend features classic local and indie bands that are popular fixtures of the Bloomington music scene. Here’s what’s happening:

Thursday

Local student-led indie band Honey Iced Tea will take the stage at 10 p.m. at The Bluebird Nightclub. Tickets are $5 for this 21+ event.

Multi-cultural rock band Making Movies will perform at The Blockhouse Bar for a Lotus Blossoms Public Performance. Lotus Blossoms is an annual four-week series in April of musical performances that celebrates culturally diverse music and arts as part of Lotus Festival. According to the event website, their sound “encompasses all of the Americas, blending classic rock with Afro-Latino rhythms — styles like rumba, merengue, mambo, and cumbia.”

Friday

Local indie rock band Backyard Function and rising R&B group Yours Truly perform at 9 p.m. at The Bluebird. Tickets are $10 for this 21+ night.

Midnight Butcher, a Bloomington post-punk band joined by the reggae project Speedy G & The Melody Makers will perform an all-ages show at 8 p.m. at The Orbit Room. Tickets are available online for $10.

Saturday

The Brook & The Bluff, joined by Hotel Fiction, will take the stage at 8 p.m. at The Bluebird. The Nashville-based folk pop band will stop in Bloomington during their current North American tour for their latest album “Bluebeard.” They have played festivals and opened for bands such as Mt Joy and Rainbow Kitten Surprise. Tickets are $22.50 for this 21+ event.

Monthly Orbit Jazz Nights returns this weekend with JonyP Trio at 6 p.m. at The Orbit Room. JonyP Trio is led by French-Canadian musician Jony Perron and the trio takes a Latin-inspired approach to old jazz standards. The trio includes Jony Perron on drums, Kurt Baer on saxophone and Steve Mascari on bass. Tickets for this all-ages show are $5.
