2024 Roosevelt Reception

Wednesday, May 22 (Two Days Away!)

6pm Cocktail Hour and 7pm Dinner

Switchyard Pavilion at Switchyard Park | 1601 S Rogers St, Bloomington, IN 47403

Featuring the 2024 Eleanor Roosevelt Keynote by Dr. Amrita Chakrabarti Myers.

Dr. Myers was born and raised in Canada by immigrant parents. There, she found her passion in studying anti-blackness in U.S. history and soon moved here to further her studies. She has now been a professor at Indiana University since 2005, teaching in the History and Gender Studies departments. Additionally, Dr. Myers is the author of Forging Freedom: Black Women and the Pursuit of Liberty in Antebellum Charleston and, most recently, The Vice President’s Black Wife: The Untold Life of Julia Chinn.

Learn more about our Keynote Speaker by visiting her website.

Join your Monroe County Democratic Party for our annual Roosevelt Reception on May 22—six days from today—at the Switchyard Pavilion at Switchyard Park. While valuing the fellowship with Democrats across the county, we continue to honor Eleanor Roosevelt and her fight for human rights protections. Her life inspires us to strengthen our relationships amongst each other, and she serves as a reminder of why we work so hard to spread our Democratic messaging.

First, come mingle with fellow Democrats during our Cocktail Hour, beginning at 6pm.

We will then welcome for our annual Eleanor Roosevelt Keynote speaker, Dr. Amrita Chakrabarti Myers. Additional speakers include federal, statewide, and state assembly candidates. We’ll hear from—but not limited to—Dr. Valerie McCray, Jennifer McCormick, Dr. Tim Peck, Beth White, and Thomas Horrocks.

Dinner begins at 7pm.

Individual Tickets - $45

Thank you to our Four Freedoms Circle donors who contribute monthly to MCDP! In January 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt first spoke of the FOUR FREEDOMS in his state of the Union address. He proposed four fundamental freedoms that people everywhere in the world should enjoy: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom From Want, and Freedom From Fear. Our belief in the Four Freedoms is fundamental to our identity as Democrats. In much the same way, our sustaining donors – those who choose to support the Monroe County Democratic Party through ongoing, monthly gifts – are fundamental to the work we do every single day. When you choose to make monthly gifts through ActBlue, our online giving portal, you provide critical support for the infrastructure, space, and staff on which we rely in all our work.
