Indiana football’s 2025 recruiting class has been fluid with additions and subtractions in June, and the Hoosiers gained another commitment Thursday.
After visiting Bloomington on June 18, defensive back Zacharey Smith, who attends Hapeville Charter Career Academy in Hapeville, Georgia, announced his verbal pledge to Indiana via X.
Smith was previously committed to the University of Pittsburgh but reversed course Thursday morning, flipping to Indiana just over half an hour after decommitting from Pitt.
“This decision is based on what I believe is best for my future, both academically and athletically,” Smith said via X about his change of commitment.
The 6-foot, 170-pound Smith is currently unranked by 247sports and Rivals. He finished his junior season with 19 tackles, two tackles for loss and three interceptions at Hapeville Charter.
In addition to Pittsburgh, Smith chose the Hoosiers over a handful of high-major schools, including Texas A&M University, Auburn University, the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville and West Virginia University, among others.
Smith is the Hoosiers’ 12th commitment in the class of 2025 and the fourth defensive back, joining 4-star safety Byron Baldwin, 3-star cornerback Jaylen Bell and 3-star safety Garrett Reese. Indiana’s 2025 class is currently ranked No. 55 nationally by 247sports.
