Indiana men’s tennis added junior Jip van Assendelft from Boise State University to its transfer class, according to a press release. Van Assendelft is the second transfer in Indiana’s class, joining sophomore Ben Pomeranets from Virginia Tech University.
Van Assendelft began his collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma, transferring after one year to Boise State. At Oklahoma, Van Assendelft went 5-5 in singles play and 3-1 in doubles.
Primarily playing as the No. 2 singles player and on the No. 1 doubles team at Boise State, Van Assendelft finished with a 21-20 record in singles play and a 16-18 record in doubles during the 2023-24 season. At his highest this past season, he held an International Tennis Administration ranking of No. 79 in singles and No. 31 in doubles.
During the 2023-24 season, the Nederweert, Netherlands, native helped Boise State to a 20-11 season, including a Mountain West Championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. Van Assendelft competed in the NCAA Doubles Championship alongside senior teammate Sam Sippel.
Van Assendelft will enter his junior season upon joining Indiana in the fall. The Hoosiers finished the 2023-24 season with a 16-11 (4-5) record, with a first-round exit in the Big Ten Tournament against then-No. 19 Michigan State ending the season.
