UPDATED: Monroe County under severe thunderstorm warning until 4 p.m., under watch until 8 p.m. Tuesday

Breaking News Filler

Northwestern Monroe County, including Bloomington, is under a severe thunderstorm warning until 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. This includes 60 mile per hour wind gusts and quarter sized hail. This could result in damage to vehicles, roofs, siding and trees. Five counties are under a warning.

Under a severe weather warning, residents should take shelter in a substantial building and leave mobile homes that could be blown over in high winds, according to the NWS.

Monroe County remains under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Twenty-six Indiana counties are under a watch. Some storms may be severe, especially in the afternoon, with damaging winds being the primary threat. Lightning and heavy rain are also possible.

A severe thunderstorm watch indicates weather conditions favor severe storms. The NWS recommends residents be prepared in case a warning is issued. Monroe County residents can monitor the forecast through local weather channels and NWS live trackers.
