The Auxiliary to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bloomington will host the annual Strawberry Shortcake Festival from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Switchyard Park Pavillion.
Strawberry shortcakes — made with Bruster’s ice cream, strawberries and whipped cream — will be available to purchase for $7 and hot dog meals, which includes chips, a drink and hot dog, for $5. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington.
The Boys and Girls Club of America is a nationwide non-profit with local chapters which provide voluntary after school programs to youth. According to their website, the club’s mission is to enable youth, especially those in need, to become productive members of their communities. There are two Boys and Girls Clubs in Bloomington and one in Ellettsville.
In addition to strawberry shortcake, the festival will feature live music, including performances by the bands Kid Kazooey and Ballroom Roustabouts, upbeat and low volume music for kids, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The live music will return from 4:30-6 p.m. with classic rock and pop singalongs performed by the band Rush Ridge Revival.
The City of Bloomington Animal Care and Control will visit with puppies available for adoption from 1-3 p.m. The Monroe County Community School Corporation “STEM to Them” mobile lab will have robotic activities from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
While geared towards children, the Strawberry Shortcake Festival is free for all to attend. There will be drive-through and walk-up options available for food pick-up, and guests can bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit in the park during the festival.
