A five-year-old male child died after being found unresponsive in the Woodland Springs Apartment Pool, according to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office media release July 13.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the apartment, located at 3111 S. Leonard Springs Road, around 7:15 p.m. that day, where medical and fire personnel were actively performing CPR on the child. The child was transported to IU Health Bloomington but was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The release stated a preliminary investigation indicated no evidence of a crime.

Detective Lieutenant Jennifer Allen wrote in an email that preliminary autopsy results are consistent with drowning. Allen wrote that the child was at the pool with his mother, a friend of the mother and three siblings.

The investigation is ongoing, the release stated.
