With Fourth of July right around the corner, Bloomington has organized festivities both on and after Independence Day.

The morning of the Fourth starts off with the City of Bloomington’s Fourth of July parade. The Bloomington Community Band will kick off the event at 9 a.m. at the Monroe County Courthouse lawn, followed by the start of the parade at 10 a.m. at College Avenue and Tenth Street, according to a City of Bloomington press release. Admission for this event is free. Additionally, downtown parking not reserved for the parade along with city parking garages will be free Thursday.

Most weather forecasts for July 4 call for rain and thunderstorms, but the Fourth of July Parade will take place as scheduled unless there is severe weather, according to the release.

Following the parade in the morning, a fireworks show will be held at 6 p.m., at the Fourwinds Lakeside Inn & Marina. Attendees will need to pay the Department of Natural Resource entrance fee for admission to the event.

On July 4 admission to Bryan Park Pool is free from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. courtesy of the Bloomington Parks Foundation, according to the release.

On July 5, an Independence Day fireworks show will take place at Riddle Point Park at Lake Lemon. The show will begin at 4 p.m., and the price of admission is $25 per vehicle.

At noon Friday on the main stage at Switchyard Park there will be a Hatha-style yoga class outside for adults of all experience levels, according to the release. The class is $10 and registration is not required.

Also on Friday, an Independence Day Community Celebration will be held at 6 p.m. at the Emmanuel Bloom Church and is free of charge.

The Ellettsville Fireworks Celebration is set to take place at 3 p.m. July 6. The celebration will take place near Edgewood High School’s cross country and tennis courts. Admission for this event is free of charge, but donations to the school are accepted.

Also on Saturday is the Bloomington Community Farmers Market. Taking place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 401 N. Morton St., the farmers market will have local products from farm and field along with ready-to-eat food from local businesses, according to the release. The event will also have live music by local performers, and admission is free.

Concluding the Fourth of July weekend are back-to-back concerts with performances from Big Dog, and the Dicky James trio with Rex Miller and Steve Mascari. The concerts are scheduled to run from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on July 7 at Bryan Park, according to the release.

City Hall at 401 N. Morton St. will be closed July 4 but Parks and Recreation facilities including the Griffy Lake Boathouse, Cascades Golf and the Twin Lakes Recreation Center will be open, according to the release.
