All of Indiana’s Democratic delegates voted Monday to support Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential nominee.
All of Indiana’s delegates were originally pledged to President Joe Biden, who dropped out of the race Sunday, the party announced in a news release. The party will officially vote on its nominee at the Democratic National Convention, which starts Aug. 19.
But the Democrats will choose the party’s nominee before then, in a virtual roll call Aug. 7.
The announcement comes as Harris consolidates support from other states’ delegations. More than enough delegates pledged support Monday, effectively securing the nomination for Harris.
She has also racked up the endorsement of Indiana’s two Democratic House representatives. Rep. Frank Mrvan, who represents northwest Indiana, pledged his support Monday. André Carson, who represents most of Marion County, also endorsed Harris on WISH-TV.
Among the Democrats heading to the convention are Bloomington’s Mayor Kerry Thomson, City Councilmember Sydney Zulich, City Clerk Nicole Bolden and Emma Shriberg, who is on the executive board of Monroe County’s National Organization for Women chapter.
