Indiana swimming and diving representatives Anna Peplowski and Carson Tyler were awarded IU Athlete of the Year for the 2023-24 school year, according to an Indiana Athletics release July 17.

Peplowski finished her junior season with a silver medal in the 200-yard freestyle and a bronze medal in the 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships, while also earning seven All-America honors.

The rising senior helped lead Indiana women’s swimming to its first Big Ten Championship since 2019. Peplowski started the 400-yard freestyle relay in the Big Ten Championships, which clinched the Big Ten team title for Indiana by half of a point.

Tyler won the NCAA and conference championships on the 3-meter springboard and platform events, along with medals on the 1-meter board. His score of 56 points at the NCAA Championships was higher than every other diving team, and his efforts led to being named College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America Diver of the Year, the Big Ten Diver of the Year and the Big Ten Diver of the Championships.

Tyler’s Olympic qualification in the 3-meter and 10-meter individual events made history, as he was the first U.S. male diver since 2000 to qualify for the Olympics in both those events.

Peplowski will be joining Tyler at the Olympics, competing on Team USA’s 4x200-meter freestyle relay team after finishing fifth in the 200-meter freestyle at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Tyler and Peplowski join 15 other Indiana swimming and diving athletes at the Paris Olympic Games, beginning July 26.
