Indiana men’s basketball has filled its 15th — and final — roster spot by adding depth to its frontcourt.
The Hoosiers announced the addition of South Carolina State University transfer center Dallas James in a press release Tuesday. James will utilize his fifth year of eligibility granted by the NCAA from the COVID-19 pandemic.
While at South Carolina State, James played in 74 games with 49 starts. In 2023, he started 13 of his 25 appearances but played only 7.1 minutes per game. The 7-foot, 200-pounder averaged 0.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.6 blocks per game.
“Dallas is an incredibly intelligent young man that will provide us with some depth across our front line,” Indiana head coach Mike Woodson said in the release. “He is a tall kid with long arms that can contest and alter shots at the rim. He comes from an NBA background with his father spending a decade in the league and we are excited to bring the James family to Bloomington.”
James graduated from South Carolina State with a degree in electrical engineering technology while holding a 4.0 GPA. The Artesia, California, native is the son of Jerome James, who played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association with the Sacramento Kings, Seattle SuperSonics and New York Knicks.
Woodson coached in the NBA while the elder James played during the 2000s, but the two never shared the same sideline.
In Bloomington, the younger James joins a frontcourt headlined by 6-foot-9 forward Malik Reneau, 7-foot center Oumar Ballo and 6-foot-10 center Langdon Hatton. The Hoosiers begin the regular season against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on Nov. 6 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
