Indiana men’s soccer ranked 7th in United Soccer Coaches preseason poll

Seemingly every year, Indiana men’s soccer enters the season with lofty expectations. This season appears to be no different as the Hoosiers are ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll.

“We’re used to it,” Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley said in a zoom call Wednesday. “The poll is a reflection of last year. We were in the quarterfinals, so I expect us to be in the top eight whether we have a big returning group or not.”

Indiana finished last season with a 15-4-5 record, bowing out in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament against the University of Notre Dame after winning the regular season Big Ten title and the Big Ten Tournament Title.

The Hoosiers returned seven of their primary starters from last season, as well as bringing in top transfers Justin Weiss and Quinton Elliot from Northwestern and the University of Louisville, respectively.

Amidst all the noise with the ranking surrounding the program, it might seem exhaustive to some. To Yeagley, it’s nothing.

“They like to put the target on us, I don’t mind it.” Yeagley said. “Do we talk about it? No.”

Indiana begins its preseason against Bowling Green State University on Aug. 13 at Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Indiana.
