25 businesses receive critical violations in Monroe County July food inspection report

The Monroe County Health Department has released its July 2024 food inspection report, with 25 locations receiving critical violations.   

According to Monroe County’s website, critical violations are defined as incidents likely to directly contribute to a foodborne disease.   

Americano Café LLC: 5492 W. State Road 46 

Two violations were due to food being held without a labeled date for over 24 hours and debris buildup in the ice machine.  

Arby’s #1043: 3303 W. Third St.  

One violation was due to the buildup of debris on the nozzles of the soda dispenser. 

Chicago’s Pizza: 5621 W. State Road 

Two violations were due to unlabeled bottles of cleaner and a measured sanitizer not reaching 100-200 PPM. According to the West Virginia University sanitizing fact sheet, sanitizer should measure 200 PPM for food contact surfaces.   

China Star Buffet: 4641 W. Richland Plaza 

One violation was due to chemicals in unlabeled spray bottles.  

Circle K #4700056: 504 W. Temperance St.  

One violation was due to the buildup of debris on soda machine nozzles.  

Cook Ellettsville (West Plant): 6600 W. McNeeley St.  

One violation was due to potentially hazardous foods measuring 50 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), coolers should be kept below 41 degrees Fahrenheit. 

El Ranchero I: 3615 W. State Road 46 

Two violations were due to unlabeled refrigerated ready-to-eat food stored for over 24 hours and a chlorine sanitizer measuring 200 PPM. According to the sanitizing fact sheet, the concentration for a chlorine-based solution must be between 50-100 PPM.  

El Ranchero II: 2100 S. Liberty Drive  

Four violations were due to raw meat being stored above vegetables and raw shrimp touching onions, unlabeled potentially hazardous food held for over 24 hours, unlabeled bottles and containers of chemicals and chemical sanitizer measuring either 0 PPM or 200 PPM.  

Farm Restaurant LLC: 108 E. Kirkwood Ave. 

One violation was due to the buildup of debris in soda machine nozzles behind the bar.  

Half Bottle Bistro: 311 S. Sare Road  

One violation was due to chemical sanitizer for the dishwashing machine in the kitchen measuring only 10 PPM.  

Hinkle’s Hamburgers: 206 S. Adam St. 

One violation was due to dishwashing machine sanitizer measuring 0 PPM.  

Homewood Suites: 1399 S. Liberty Drive  

Two violations were due to dishwashing machine sanitizer measuring 0 PPM and unlabeled potentially hazardous food held for over 24 hours with no date labels. 

La Bonita Grocery Store and Restaurant: 1709 N. College Ave.  

Two violations were due to raw meat stored above vegetables and two coolers reaching above 48 degrees Fahrenheit.  

Longfei Chinese Restaurant: 113 S. Grant St.  

Two violations were due to the dishwashing machine not dispensing sanitizer and raw meat stored above vegetables.  

Roly Poly Sandwiches: 1616 W. Third St.  

One violation was due to potato salad being held at 60 degrees Fahrenheit.  

Smokin’ Jack’s Rib Shack: 505 W. 17th St.  

One violation was due to chips and cracks in food lids and containers. 

Stir Fry 88: 2884 E. Third St.  

One violation was due to debris found in the ice machine.  

Taco Bell #28870 (South): 2400 S. Walnut St.  

One violation was due to the presence of insects in the facility’s restroom.  

Taco Bell #28922 (Ellettsville): 3811 W. State Road 46 

One violation was due to chips and cracks in multiple containers.  

Templeton Elementary School: 1400 S. Brenda Ave.  

One violation was due to the milk cooler being held at 65 degrees Fahrenheit, with the milk held at 49.5 degrees Fahrenheit and cold, potentially hazardous foods held at 41 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the CDC, milk should be maintained at 40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.  

The Village Deli: 409 E. Kirkwood Ave.  

One violation was due to a sanitizer in the kitchen not reaching the recommended PPM level.  

Urban Air: 3603 W. State Road  

One violation was due to potentially hazardous food measuring at 100 degrees Fahrenheit.  

Wee Willies West: 4618 W. Richland Plaza Drive  

Four violations were due to the buildup of debris in the ice machine, dishes in the hand sink, chemicals being stored next to food and dents in the food cans.  

Wheeler Mission (Bloomington): 215 S. Westplex Ave.  

One violation was due to the buildup of debris in the ice machine.  

R E Smith Concessions: 5700 W. Airport Road (Observed at the Monroe County Fair) 

One violation was due to the chemical sanitizer bucket reading at 0 PPM.
