Bloomington, Ind. - The City of Bloomington’s Commission on the Status of Black Males (CSBM) is inviting middle school and high school-aged males to attend the fifth annual Black Male Youth Summit on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Hall, located at 401 N. Morton St., Bloomington, IN.
The summit, themed “Elements of Empowerment: Using Black Excellence to Elevate Self/Community,” is designed for young Black males to recognize their strengths and achievements, both individually and within their communities.
The event will feature a series of speakers, including Dr. Dhakir Mubarak Abdullah, a scholar focused on the Black Studies Movement at Indiana University Bloomington; Corey Andrews, a Regional Vice President and advocate for financial literacy; and Frederick Yeakey, Chief Partnership Officer at Providence Cristo Rey High School, who will discuss his experience in education and community building.
The summit also includes workshops, a pizza lunch, and opportunities for participants to engage with members of the CSBM. The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) is partnering with the city to excuse registered students from classes so they can attend the event.
The event is free, but registration is required by Tuesday, Sept. 10 at bloomington.in.gov/csbm. The Black Male Youth Summit aims to provide a supportive space for students of color to express themselves, connect with community leaders, and access resources tailored to their specific needs.
