The following is a press release written by Mary Catherine Carmichael for Randy Cassady's commissioner campaign.
Bloomington, IND: At today’s meeting of the Monroe County Election Board, District 2 Monroe County Commissioner Candidate Randy Cassady read the following statement, suspending his campaign:
“I was recently advised that my candidate filing for District 2 Monroe County Commissioner narrowly missed the six month residency requirement, resulting in my ineligibility to run. I accept that determination and am therefore suspending my campaign, effective immediately.
It's unfortunate that the voters of Monroe County won’t have an opportunity to decide on their representation in District 2, but I believe that everyone in the election process must abide by the rules as they are written.
While my campaign was brief, my wife Tamby and I were overwhelmed with encouragement and offers of support, and I want to thank everyone who offered to contribute to the success of my candidacy.
I love this community and I will continue as an active resident to help chart a path forward for our county that puts common sense and the best interests of residents first.”
