Bloomington, Ind. – The City of Bloomington will hold a press conference to provide updates on street homelessness and the Housing Action Plan at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6 in the City Hall Council Chambers at 401 N Morton St, Bloomington.

The event will begin with an update from Mayor Kerry Thomson and service providers, followed by an open floor for questions. RSVPs are required through this form for press attendance. This event is for media contacts only.

The following service providers will be present to share updates on initiatives:

  • Melissa Burgess, HealthNet Homeless Initiative Program
  • Forrest Gilmore, Beacon Inc.
  • Dana Jones, Wheeler Mission
  • Mary Morgan, Heading Home of South Central Indiana
  • Emily Pike, New Hope for Families and Chair, South Central Housing Network
  • Carrie Stillions, Middle Way House

“Street Homelessness is at a crisis level in our community. It affects us all, and the rise in street homelessness is a challenge we must face together. Each week, we are moved by the stories of those living in crisis, the exhaustion of our service providers, and the concern of businesses and residents,” says Mayor Kerry Thomson. “This press conference is an opportunity to share our progress and plans and to highlight the emergency housing action plan created by service providers. Their dedication and compassion are vital as we strive for sustainable solutions.”
