Bloomington bank robbed Tuesday, suspect at large

Crime Filler

JC Bank on 2421 S. Walnut St. was the victim of a robbery Tuesday, according to Bloomington police.

Around 11:50 a.m., officers arrived at the bank in response to a hold-up alarm, a silent alarm found in banks that can be pressed in emergency situations. Bank staff informed the officers that they had just been robbed, according to BPD Captain Ryan Pedigo.

A man wearing a face covering approached a bank teller and handed them a note demanding money, Pedigo said over email. After receiving the money, the man fled on foot.

Nearby Bloomington High School South was put on shelter in place as officers searched the surrounding area, according to Pedigo. The school eventually lifted the shelter in place, and students were dismissed at the regular time, according to a message sent out to BHSS parents.

Templeton Elementary was also put on shelter in place, the Herald-Times reported. The suspect was not found in the nearby parking lots and residential areas and remains at-large.

Pedigo wrote the investigation remains ongoing, and those with information can reach out to Detective Rob Shrake at (812) 349-3352 or shraker@bloomington.in.gov.
