Nine pigs died after a semi collided with a car at 8:40 a.m. Thursday on State Road 37.
No serious human injuries were reported from either vehicle. The truck was carrying 162 pigs.
Monroe County Fire Department first responders and Indiana State Troopers helped contain several pigs that became lose after the accident. Jason Allen, public information officer with the Monroe Fire Protection District, said several good samaritans aided the effort by creating a makeshift pen to contain the anxious pigs.
A second truck was dispatched to pick up the pigs.
Allen said the accident was nearly cleaned up around 2:15 p.m. and the road should open early this afternoon.
