Caturday, a family friendly vendor market and adoption event, will take place from 12-5 p.m. on Sept. 21 at The Cat’s Closet in Bloomington.
Caturday will benefit adoptable cats from The Cat’s Closet and the Greene County Humane Society. Even if attendees don’t plan on adopting, they can enjoy food from various food trucks, such as Pinoy Garden Cafe and Jiffy Treet, and shop from a variety of more than 30 small businesses, which will include artists, vintage sellers and farmers with flowers and cat grass. There will also be music and yard games throughout the day.
The two co-owners, Clairessa Winters and Sydney Leeper, had their start as a vintage pop-up shop in 2021. Then, The Cat’s Closet officially opened in 2023 as a cat lounge and vintage shop. Visitors can hang out in the lounge with adoptable cats as well as shop from their vintage store where they sell secondhand clothing. They have a variety of clothing that is always changing, such as sweaters, shirts, jackets, hats and more. Visiting the lounge costs $7 — or $2 on Thursdays — for 30 minutes and $11 for an hour.
“Essentially we are a foster home for rescue cats from the Greene County Humane Society,” Leeper said. “We just kind of give them a second home, a chance to get out of the small shelter cages and they have a free roaming environment.”
All cats that come to The Cat’s Closet are spayed and neutered, vaccinated and microchipped at the Greene County Humane Society.
“We double it as an adoption event, so last Caturday we had 10 adoptions,” Leeper said. “The lounge is open all day long. We’ll have 25 cats in there, and then in the parking lot we’ll have 10 small kittens, carnival style, and people can come and hang out and just have a good time."
The event is free for anyone to attend. More information can be found on The Cat’s Closet or Visit Bloomington websites.
