A currently closed portion of Indiana Avenue from Kirkwood Avenue to Sixth Street will reopen to two lanes next Monday.

The street will be repaved on Wednesday, and the ongoing Clear Creek Culvert Reconstruction project will be completed as landscapers and electricians finish work through the end of this week, according to Bloomington Engineering Project Manager Zac Rogers. The City of Bloomington contracted Milestone Contractors to work with the City of Bloomington Utilities on the project, which began on Feb. 5.

The project intended to improve stormwater drainage and underground utility infrastructure by replacing an existing limestone tunnel — which was built in 1900 — with a new concrete tunnel.

“I’m grateful that Milestone was able to collaborate with CBU and the city on this long-needed project for the past couple of years,” Thomas Gott, the Project Superintendent at Milestone Contractors, said.
