The portion of Indiana Avenue from Kirkwood Avenue to Sixth Street reopened to two lanes Thursday.
The street was repaved Wednesday and the Clear Creek Culvert Reconstruction project completed as landscapers and electricians finish work through the end of this week, according to Bloomington Engineering Project Manager Zac Rogers. The City of Bloomington contracted Milestone Contractors to work with the City of Bloomington Utilities on the project, which began on Feb. 5.
The project intended to improve stormwater drainage and underground utility infrastructure by replacing an existing limestone tunnel — which was built in 1900 — with a new concrete tunnel.
“I’m grateful that Milestone was able to collaborate with CBU and the city on this long-needed project for the past couple of years,” Thomas Gott, the Project Superintendent at Milestone Contractors, said.
UPDATE: This story was updated to reflect Indiana Avenue opened ahead of when project managers originally estimated.
