Halloween festivities to check out in Bloomington on Thursday

Halloween is a time for fun scares and scary fun. Trick or treating for both Bloomington and Ellettsville will take place 5:30-8:30 p.m. Here are some other experiences being offered around the Bloomington area for the holiday Thursday. 

Trick or Treat at the Ferguson International Center (1-4:30 p.m.) 

Free for all students, scholars and creatures of the night, stop by the Ferguson International Center for some Halloween fun. Visitors will have the chance to guess how much candy corn is in the jar at the front desk to win some IU merchandise, such as stickers and a custom IU tote, from the Office of International Services. The Ferguson International Center is the IU center for international programs and student activities.  

The Ferguson Internation Center is located at 330 N. Eagleson Ave. 

Nightmare on Game Street (3-5 p.m.) 

Join the Center of Excellence for Women and Technology for its annual Halloween event which will have snacks, community and games. The CEW&T invites anyone in the community to join them for a free fun night on Halloween, and to bring any games visitors want to play.  

Nightmare on Game Street will take place at Franklin Hall, room 035 (The Game Lab) located at 601 E. Kirkwood Ave.  

Halloween Board Games with the Monroe County Public Library (4-6 p.m.) 

If you’re looking for a more lowkey Halloween, come play board games at the local library. This event at the Monroe County Public Library Downtown is a chance for some community and competitive fun in the Halloween spirit for ages 12-19. 

The Monroe County Public Library Downtown branch is located at 303 E. Kirkwood Ave. 

LGBTQ+ Culture Center Annual Halloween Gathering (5-7 p.m.) 

The LGBTQ+ Culture Center  will host its annual Halloween party to cap off LGTBQ+ History Month. This event is open to anyone in the LGTBQ+ community, as well as allies, and refreshments will be provided. 

The LGBTQ+ Culture Center is located at 705 E . Seventh St.  

Trick or Treat at the Wylie House (5:30-8:30 p.m.) 

Explore the Wylie House on Halloween night for some ghostly stories, eerie experiences and spooky encounters. There is a self-guided walk-through tour of the house for visitors. The Wylie House Museum is fun for all ages, especially on Halloween night. Visitors can also learn about the Wylie House Musuem during their visit, as it is the historic home of IU’s first president, Andrew Wylie, until his death in 1851. 

The Wylie House is located at 307 E. Second St. 

IU Cinema found footage double feature (7 p.m.) 

The IU Cinema is offering a double feature of horror movies “Late Night with the Devil” (2023) and "The Blair Witch Project (1999), with tickets for $10 for everyone. “Late Night with the Devil” is a 2023 horror film starring David Dastmalchian as a late-night talk show host summoning dark magics to bring his show’s ratings up, unleashing horrible evils. “The Blair Witch Project” is a horror classic following three students as they go into the woods looking for the local legend of the Blair Witch. 

The IU Cinema is located at 1213 E. Seventh St. behind the IU Auditorium.
