Former Indiana men’s basketball player Race Thompson signed a contract Tuesday to join the Memphis Grizzlies’ G-league affiliate, the Memphis Hustle.

The 6-foot-8 forward spent last season rehabbing from a fractured right tibia plateau after signing with the New York Knicks in the NBA Summer League. After recovering, Thompson most recently played for the Indiana alumni team, Assembly Ball, in The Basketball Tournament this summer.

In Thompson’s five seasons as a Hoosier, he averaged 7.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.8 blocks per game in 130 games for the Cream and Crimson.

During his time at Indiana, Thompson was Honorable mention All-Big Ten and a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Honoree.

Thompson started 91 of his last 92 games as a Hoosier and was a team captain in each of his last three seasons.

He is now the second Hoosier to join a G League roster this offseason. Former teammate Miller Kopp recently signed with the Oklahoma City Blue.

The Hustle start their season Nov 9. against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
