Indiana men’s soccer fifth-year senior JT Harms won Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. The weekly award marks the first of Harms’ career.
In the Hoosiers’ 2-1 win over then-No. 15 UCLA on Oct. 25, Harms launched a punt into the Bruins’ half directly to senior forward Sam Sarver, who converted the game’s deciding goal. The assist was another first for Harms, who transferred to Indiana from Duke University prior to the 2022 season.
Harms has helped keep a pair of clean sheets during the Hoosiers’ five-match winning streak, and his 49 saves this season rank second in the Big Ten. He’s been a consistent safety valve for Indiana’s backline, and his punt against UCLA displayed his ability to kickstart a counterattack in a hurry.
“Some of it’s just being able to get us out of trouble and also start our attack,” head coach Todd Yeagley said of Harms in a press conference Monday. “He’s got the ability to help with both of those.”
Indiana returns to action at 8 p.m. Tuesday for its Big Ten finale against Northwestern at Bill Armstrong Stadium. With a win and an Ohio State draw or loss against Michigan State, the Hoosiers can ensure a share of the regular season conference title.
