A case of rape and domestic battery occurred in May 2024 at Hershey Hall of the Ashton Residence Center. The Title IX Office reported the case to the IU Police Department on Oct. 23, according to IU Public Safety Communications Manager Mary Keck.

IU defines rape as nonconsensual penetration of the private body parts by an object or any body part of another person, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person. IU defines domestic violence as violence committed which would constitute felony or misdemeanor crime by someone who is/has been an intimate partner, shared a child, cohabitated, or been similarly situated with a spouse of the complainant.

The incident was said to have occurred between May 1 and May 15, 2024. The incident was not reported to IUPD by the individuals involved. The case was referred to university officials for review.
