Enjoy peak apple season in Indiana with these four recipes centered around the fall fruit. These recipes will satisfy any apple craving and get you in the spirit for the fall season.

Elevate this typical after-school snack by making it at home. For this recipe, you will need your choice of apples, ground cinnamon, lemon juice and vanilla extract.

  1. Peel and chop your apples into large wedges. I recommend choosing a sweet apple like Honeycrisp, Fuji or Pink Lady.
  2. Place your chopped apples, half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon, two tablespoons of lemon juice and a quarter cup of water in a large pot over medium-low heat.
  3. Put the lid on the pot and allow the apples to soften for 25-35 minutes.
  4. Once apples are soft, mash them with a wooden spoon to your desired texture. As the applesauce cools, the consistency will thicken.
  5. If necessary, sweeten the applesauce with honey, brown sugar or maple syrup.

This festive salad wonderfully complements any main course and embodies the crisp taste of fall.  For this recipe, you will need Honeycrisp apples, kale, pomegranate seeds, avocado and apple cider vinaigrette.

  1. In a large bowl combine six cups of kale, half a cup of crumbled feta, sliced apples and avocados and pomegranate seeds in a bowl. Additional toppings can include prosciutto, toasted pecans or pumpkin seeds.
  2. Dress and toss the salad with the apple cider vinaigrette.

This delicious breakfast item perfectly embodies the fall spirit and is easy to make at home. For this recipe you will need the usual French toast ingredients  (bread, eggs and vanilla extract,) plus two apples, ground cinnamon and brown sugar.

  1. Add the peeled apple slices, three-fourths of a cup of brown sugar and four tablespoons of butter into a saucepan over medium-high heat. Once the sugar and butter has dissolved, pour a quarter teaspoon of vanilla and a half teaspoon of cinnamon into the pan and cook for about seven minutes. The apples will become the texture of pie filling and serves as the topping of French toast.
  2. While the sliced apples are simmering on the stove, combine two eggs, half a cup of milk, a quarter teaspoon of vanilla and a half teaspoon of cinnamon into a bowl.
  3. Douse each slice of bread with the egg mixture and place it onto a pan over medium-high heat. Cook each slice of bread for 90 seconds and then top with the cinnamon apple filling.

If you are longing for a homemade delicacy, follow this straightforward recipe for a classic apple dessert. For this recipe you will need apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour, baking powder, milk, butter, ground cinnamon, ginger and vanilla extract.

  1. In a bowl, combine four sliced Honeycrisp apples, a quarter cup brown sugar, two tablespoons of granulated sugar, three tablespoons of flour, two teaspoons of vanilla extract and a teaspoon of both cinnamon and ginger. Pour the apple mixture into a greased baking dish.
  2. In another bowl, whisk one cup of flour, two teaspoons of baking powder, a quarter teaspoon of salt and a half of a cup of sugar. Mix three-fourths of a cup of milk, six tablespoons of butter and two tablespoons of vanilla extract into the bowl.
  3. Pour this batter on top of the apple mixture in the baking dish. Bake the cobbler for 45 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The cobbler should have a golden-brown crust.
