The Indiana House District 62 race is too close to call as of midnight. Unofficial results from the three counties within the district show a vote margin of less than 800 votes.
Final unofficial results for Monroe County:
Hall (R) 11,385 — 44.15%
Horrocks (D) 14,401 — 55.85%
Final unofficial results for Brown County:
Hall (R) 5,616 — 65.6%
Horrocks (D) 2,945 — 34.4%
Unofficial results for Jackson County:
Hall (R) 1,320 — 86.44%
Horrocks (D) 207 — 13.56%
This adds up to 18,321 votes for Hall and 17,553 votes for Horrocks — a vote margin of 768.
However, Jackson County has yet to count 744 mail ballots, 203 travel board ballots and 19 “email ballots,” according to Jackson County Clerk Piper Shoemaker. Since District 62 only covers a piece of Jackson County, it’s likely only a fraction of the uncounted ballots will add to the District 62 total.
In 2022, the race’s margin was similarly thin. Tuesday night totals in 2022 were more than 6,000 short of what they actually were due to an issue transferring data. That narrowed the margin further, ultimately leading to a recount that declared Hall the winner.
The Associated Press has not yet called the race as of publication.
